When Yarn Takes Over…

Okay, the first step to taking care of a problem is admitting you have one.  I officially have a problem with buying yarn.  There is no way possible I will ever knit all of the yarn that I have in my stash.  I just joined another sock club and am attending Sock Summit next week.  Can’t say more won’t jump into my bag at the conference.  I am posting this to hold myself accountable.

After Sock Summit I am going on a yarn diet.  No yarn for 6 months *sigh*.  It has to be done.

Short socks

Last month I completed another sock.  This one used two new techniques:  the star toe and a picot edge.  The picot edge is made by knitting a row of eyelets between 12 rows of stockinette stitch.  It is then folded over and stitched closed.  It makes the edge pretty, but I find it bulky.  Think I’ll stick to ribbing!

The star toe forms a star across the toe area.  It is also pretty, but somewhat tedious.  Maybe I’m just a plain jane!

Finally….

I finished the Cheri Amour!  Now it is blocking.  The sleeves turned out to be drop shoulder, which I wasn’t expecting.  Here it is:It looks okay except the sleeves are HUGE!  They are really long and poofy.  I’ll have to wait and see how it looks after it is blocked.

Posting Thursday

I have promised myself I will post every Thursday.  It doesn’t matter if my theme is not done, the blog is not as professional looking as I want or whether or not I can post pictures correctly.  This is a work in progress and until it looks the way that I want it to I need to keep up with it so it does not get neglected.

Projects have gone by the wayside as summer has started.  I have a sweater that is complete, with arms seamed up but it needs to be sewn together and blocked.  Also have a pair of neglected malabrigo loafers in progress.  Have been letting the fact that I do not know how to wrap and turn get in the way of working on it.  Thus I cannot neglect the blog.

You may notice changes as the next few weeks go by as I try to manipulate things to be the way that I want them.  Thanks for your patience!

Knitting Shawls

I love shawls.  I adore knitting them.  My favorite one is the most complicated and took me the longest–the Madala shawl by Goddess Knits: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mandala-3 I made mine out of Knitpicks “Shadow” yarn and absolutely loved it!

My most recent shawl made was the Mini Mochi Shawlette: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-mochi-shawlette.  I used two different colorways of Mini Mochi and added a ruffled edging:

I alternated the two colorways every two rows in order to blend them together.  I was pleased with the results, but wish the shawl had turned out bigger.

Have not been posting on my blog as I have been very frustrated by my inability to use all the “simple” aspects of it.  Sometimes my links have worked, but not always.  For some reason I cannot add images from my computer at this time and am unable to add images from another website.  There are many things that I would like to share, however, cannot seem to get wordpress/dreamhost to cooperate.  Am now impressed with all of the people who have been able to get their blog looking professional.

Wish me luck!

P.S Got the pictures to load again!!!

This is hilarious!

I can’t imagine where this would be appropriate but it is really funny that someone thought of it:

Organization continued…

Since I last wrote I have gone through my upstairs and my downstairs stash.  Uh, yes I have both.  Well, I haven’t really finished going through all of the downstairs.  I have yet to take all of the sock yarns out of the paper bags that I put them into.  I had this crazy idea that each month I would take out a skein of sock yarn, be surprised, and knit a pair of socks.  Pair number one is still on the needle2009 socks.  Oh well, at least sock number one is complete!

Organizing

Don’t know about you all but I have a yarn problem.  My stash is awfully big and I am too embarrassed to post it all on ravelry.  Yet I still want more.  Today I found a group on ravelry called the Organized Knitting Club.  It’s all about how to organize all of your knitting supplies.  I’m hoping this will help to remind me of what I DO have instead of what I want to have.  I’m sure my stash has already reached the beyond life expectancy range.  Although I love to knit and crochet I’m not that fast!

Just when you think you’ve seen it all….

Someone actually took the time to crochet this:

Hmmmm

What to write about next?  The lace projects I’m working on now are actually in sport and worsted weight.  I LOVE the multnomah shawl and am currently making it as a present for my mother (shhhh).  I also am making a semi-circular shawl that is almost complete.  I’ll post pictures when it is done!

Have plans to crochet a thread coaster.  Any suggestions for a pattern?
